Describe LYRALOVESTAR in three words.
Celestial, inspirational and wearable

Why design? Is it more of a new venture for you or something you have always done and wanted to do?
As a celebrity stylist of over ten years, I’ve worked in fashion and costume design for most of my career. I’ve always had a special connection with accessories, so jewelry design was a natural transition for me. In my opinion, jewelry, unlike clothing, is more personable. It tells a story…where you purchased it , who gave it to you, for what special occasion etc..

Who do you design for?
I design for the fashion forward woman who lives in the moment, looks to the future, and believes in the power of passion and determination to make her dreams come true.

What inspires you?
I’ve been obsessed with moons and stars since my early childhood. A night’s sky is one the most beautiful spectacles. I am inspired by everything celestial and my appreciation of world culture from my extensive travels throughout Europe & Asia.

Do you have a design routine or does it happen more organically?
Each season, I get inspired by something very specific. For my Spring/Summer collection “Egyptian Nights”,  I was inspired by the Egyptian culture. The textiles, pyramids and jewelry worn by pharaohs such as Cleopatra. I try to totally immerse myself in the culture and draw inspiration from my research. From there I transform those ideas into a collection but it still always has some celestial affinity.

Describe a day inside your studio.
Pandora, designing, playing with new materials and components, filling orders and endless hours in front of my computer :)

Which piece of yours is a personal favorite, why?
My favorite piece in my collection is the Estelle Runway Necklace. It truly represents LYRALOVESTAR on a whole. It’s very versatile..it can be worn daytime with just jeans & tee or at night with a great cocktail dress. It’s such a beauty with so many distinct celestial motifs.

How do you decide which materials to use?
Each season I try to introduce new materials to the collection based on the latest trends. I go to a lot of the major gem and jewelry trade shows to source new materials. For the latest collection I introduced neon colored Agate stones.

Tell us about your latest collection.
The latest collection is very bold, daring…it makes a statement! It’s very fashion forward - red-carpet and runway worthy!

What’s the most exciting thing to happen for LYRALOVESTAR lately?
The most exciting thing to happen for LYRALOVESTAR was to launch the collection at NYFW’s Accessories Exhibit at Lincoln Center amongst some of the most talented designers in the world! Followed by fashion icon Patricia Field hosting my first trunk show and giving me the official stamp approval!

We're Watching: Madmen

So, last night was the much anticipated return of AMC’s Mad Men with the Season 5 premiere. And as is true with the start of many new seasons, the series opener spent a hefty portion of the two-hour episode catching viewers up—setting the table if you will—on some main plot points from Season 4; Joan’s baby with Roger, Roger’s lack of importance to the business, Don’s new, dysfunctional marriage fueled by passion and Peggy’s desire to be noticed and advance in her career.

As far as Season 5 goes, the fashion / costume design did not disappoint. We absolutely loved the classic tailored suiting with the whisper of a pocket square and those skinny ties with their perfectly placed tie clips. Ohhhh Mr. Draper could you be any sexier? With your slicked back hair, whiskey and cigarettes…perfection! The ladies didn’t let us down either - those printed dresses, updos and curves.

image

While Lane may be a good 10-15 years Jane’s senior, the combination of tie, under black cardigan, under charcoal suit just screams silver fox. And those tortoise shell glasses…

Meanwhile, Peggy is as under appreciated as ever. We can’t quite decide if she and Megan are going to become friends or enemies.

image

Peggy strives to progress in the office, yet her fashions remain reminiscent of more traditional times with knee-length, a-line dresses compete with buttoned-up collars in expected colors

Finally, moving into the forefront of the show during this episode, was the development of Civil Rights, which was HUGE! We predict this will be a big, big theme this season.

And, after much office discussion this morning, here are the themes and plot points that we think will continue:

1.Women breaking out of traditional roles as mothers and home-makers and emerging as independent, career-driven role models.

2. Joan and Megan Draper will have MAJOR conflict this season. Enough said.

3.Pete is under-valued and handling it like a whiling, only-child, desperate for attention. His wife’s post-partum depression could into a “thing” this season.

image

But we love Pete’s outfits! His plaid blazer matched with a skinny, orange tie cry for as much attention as he does! Would be better if he paired this with a printed button-up - he’d be totally GQ-worthy!

4. Lane will certainly continue to be complete creep and do sketchy things like steal pictures of women from stranger’s wallets. Watch out Joan, Lane is looking at you girl…

Let us know what you think!

Can’t wait to see how this season’s fashions and plot will continue to develop!

Need it Now

image

There are no words to describe how obsessed we are with the Givenchy shark tooth necklace seen on the queen of surf chic, Erin Wasson down their SS12 runway.

image

The nearly $1,000 price tag has us looking for alternatives and the Hannah Warner gold tooth necklace in our NY showroom is less than half the price at $310!

We're excited for: Cindy Sherman at the MoMa

Without a doubt, Cindy Sherman is one of the most influential photographers in the contemporary art world. Her presence has spanned over music, TV, film and fashion. She’s known for her real and somewhat strange depictions of different people and stereotypes; many of which star Sherman herself, completely transformed for the sake of conveying issues important to her. Her work garnered attention from the fashion industry when she began collaborating with designers on editorial shoots and ad campaigns which were seen as the antithesis of the fashion world and completely different than anything that had been done before.

Sherman has worked with some of the biggest names in fashion including, but not limited to, Vogue, Balenciaga ,Comme des Garçons and Marc Jacobs.

We’re insanely lucky to be in New York because The MoMa is currently featuring an exhibit with over 170 of Cindy Sherman’s original works. The Cindy Sherman exhibit will be running through June 11th, 2012. We are so excited to check it out. Who’s coming with?

Jewelry designer, Hannah Warner, is known for her dark and edgy pieces influenced by nature, different cultures, death and decay.

So we were definitely not surprised to find out that she and make-up artist Holly Silius teamed up with manicurist Marian Newman and Mugler designer, Nicola Formichetti, to create some killer metal nails for his FW2012 runway show.
